Small Boat Series 2 Jan 2019

We don’t have a frostbite series but if the amount of ice in the dinghy is a qualification then we made it. With wind from the NNW initially setting a windward first leg was always going to be awkward so with the first mark laid close to the bank it proved to be the deciding factor in the racing (we did move it for the final few races). Most of the time the first boat around the first mark went on to win and congratulations are in order for all. Equally testing was the final leg to the finish line which often saw leads evaporate in seconds and we saw many very close finishes with a wide variety of boats/skippers taking the honours.
What was hugely satisfying was the number of boats on the water and it was difficult to think of a time when we had seen a larger fleet.
Of particular note was JT who bought his newly 3D printed Ellipsis IOM for it’s first sail. It looks great and it is clear that 3D printed RC sailing boats are the way forward and cut down the 12 month lead times for conventionally made GRP boats.
The results are below – well done to JT – consistency wins through. Thank you Roger for really quick results.
