With a brisk wind, mainly from the North East, and dry, warm weather making a good back drop for the 4th IOM event of the Midweek Summer series.
It was good to see John Sim with his vintage Ten rater, see yellow sail, take to the water after the winter absence.
Likewise, it was good to see Ben again, after his workload has prevented him taking some time out through the week.
After setting the course and some tinkering, lunch was taken.
With 13 members attending a quick photo shoot was held.
With more yachts taking to the water, it was decided to, have a skipper observe each race, in rotation of sail number order, to try and add some order, to the sometimes frantic first mark, especially with a clockwise course putting pressure on the “port and starboard” rule.
Six races were completed, then a coffee break and then a further 4 were completed before skippers started to depart and the racing was abandoned.
After a “Short” walk to retrieve a wayward IOM , the results were worked out (with 1 discard and 2 discards, the results were the same)
1st – Kevin – 11pts
2nd – John T – 17pts
3rd – Roger P – 18pts
4th – Paul B – 20pts
5th – Cliff – 27pts
6th – Barry – 34pts
7th – Steve – 43pts
8th – Gordon – 46pts
9th – Roger S – 46pts
10th – Garry – 56pts
There seems to be some issues around the start time and the number of races, hence the finishing time, of the event since the start time changed to 2pm with the start BST.
As there is no committee, you all have a say in how the “club” is run so you each need to table your opinions on the Midweek series, and a common consciences agreed so we can try and move forward united and not left feeling victimised.
The next event is Wednesday 23rd May 2018 for “Social” sailing with guests from the Fairford Model Boat section of the local U3A group. So some mixed yacht and mixed skipper events will be tried to spice things up.
Again, bring a guest and any size yacht welcome.
Until next time.
