CMYC Small Yacht Series S5 5th June 2019

Members started to arrive from 10am and given the wind strength and in particular the gusts, “A” rig was the order of the day. It was nice to see Cliff back in action and Rocka as well after his trip across the other side of the Atlantic.
The wind was swinging around from SW to SSW and round to W and back again so setting a workable course was testing. Peter volunteered as Race Officer and with Barbara’s normal punctuality we started at 1pm with 13 boats. Garry had a winch failure in his dragon and borrowed a boat but then due to other problems with winch lines coming off the drum even that option disappeared. At the start most were on “A” rig but Steve, Gordon and Paul took the plunge and went straight to A+ and that eventually proved to be the right decision as the wind gradually eased.
The first 5 races were a tussle with JT and Paul fighting it out for honours. Then after a coffee break most people switched to A+ and saw some very close battles on the water with a couple of photo finishes. It is commendable that the number of rule infringements is reducing and people enjoyed a great days sailing. We welcomed another visitor, Mike and Jean from Pershore, and given that he’s got both DF65 and DF95 it’s
highly likely that we will see a small fleet of DF95’s racing sometime soon, watch this space.
Thank you to Edward who was there with is video camera.
Thank you to everyone who made it a great days sailing.
