CMYC IOM Yacht Series S12

The morning started overcast and with light rain showers drifting through with squally winds of around 18 knots. The early birds went out on B rig and confirmed it was at the top end of A in between the gusts. However, by the time we’d had lunch the conditions had cleared and got progressively warmer as the afternoon wore on and all followed Gordon’s lead and went
for A rig. Paul set a long triangular course with a good first beat. With only 4 experienced skippers, the start line wasn’t too busy but Paul set the tone for the days racing by being over the start on the first race.
Ben had his beautiful ISIS on the water and with Roger and Gordon there was some great racing which saw some very close competitions and finishes. Paul’s Sedici seemed to have a speed that was hard to match and seemed very balanced and was first at the windward mark on most occasions.
Everyone was overpowered at some time and notably on one downwind leg with a vicious gust everyone was overpowered with boats going in all directions and Roger managed to make the best of it and came out in front.
We’d completed 11 races by 2.45pm, when Ben had to make tracks, and so called it a day.
Roger and Paul stayed on and tried a variation on pursuit racing around 2 buoys and had great fun. The results don’t really convey how much fun we had today and it must go down as one of the best day’s sailing this year with warm sunshine, great winds and great company.
We missed you all!
Don’t forget the Fun Day scheduled for Saturday 28 September and we’ve programmed in a weeding day Monday 23 September so please mark it in your diary and come with all the necessary gear.
