A mild misty morning greeted the “Early birds” at the lake (although they had wondered if they had got the right day).
But slowly the gathering built to 8, with Bob taking a drive over to check that the club was still in good hands and Graham had been given some time off work so took the opportunity to visit and remind us who he is.
The light to very light, westerly wind meant some buoy movements to set a course for the delayed 1st event of the “Winter” series.
Six IOMs took to the water and completed 10 races, mainly of 1 lap of a triangular course with a leeward gate.
John T’s new sails certainly did not hold him back, taking 9 wins, and Roger P taking the other one which proved valuable in the count back for 2nd, Kevin took third with Steve and Gordon taking 4th and 5th respectively. Garry retired after a couple of races, as conditions were not helping him get to grips with sailing in a racing environment.
To date, 21 of the 2017 members have renewed their membership for 2018 with the others stating “the cheque is in the post” so the club is in a good place moving into the New Year.
We still have interest on the books from a few others but are waiting to join us at the lake in the Spring, before committing and after Santa has, hopefully, delivered a suitable yacht (we all dream of that happening).
Also other sailing groups know Cotswold MYC is “Alive” and are waiting for an invite to sail with us and this is something to develop further is the Spring.
The MYA SW district is keen for some of our members to join in the “regional IOM series” so if you are interested let me know and we can discuss in more detail.
The Cotswold Sailing Club will be electing their 2018 committee shortly and it will be a good point to build our relationship with them through 2018 and explore some joint events.
For those who want to get “out of the house” for some fresh air, the next sailing day will be
Wednesday 27th December 2017 for “Social” in the morning and “Winter” series #2 in the afternoon.
Some have asked about Sunday sailing on the 31st December 2017 to see the year out so if you are up for some “Social” sailing that day please get in touch.
Finally, I would like to pass on my “Seasonal good wishes” to you all, and wish you “All the best for 2018”.
